Books That Were Out Of My Comfort Zone: Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This weeks topic is Books That Were Out Of My Comfort Zone. Which for me was a little hard, because throughout 2015 and even the beginning of 2016. I have been trying to read more genre's of books, which is good and bad, but it also has made me realize that what I had considered outside of my comfort zone isn't exactly the same. So without further ado here are the Books That Were Out Of My Comfort Zone. 

The Martian by Andy Weir

This is an Adult Science Fiction novel, and I was really worried that I would hate it because of how hyped up it was. Thankfully it did not disappoint.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith

This is a Historical Fiction, Adult, Paranormal vampire novel.

I really enjoyed this book even though it was an adult book and I hadn't really read many at that time. 

Compulsion by Martina Boone

This is a YA, Fantasy, Paranormal, Contemporary-romance, historical fiction.

I was expecting to hate this book, because it was a contemporary romance and we all know that I typically don't enjoy those. But the historical fiction part of this made up for it.  

Stolen by Lucy Christopher

This is a YA, Contemporary, Thriller.

While nowadays this isn't out of my comfort zone, when I read this it was and any type of thriller book I refused to read because I was afraid they would give me nightmares. Now though it is one of my favorite genres because this book made me realize that they weren't all terrifying.

All The Truth That's In Me by Julie Berry 

This is a YA, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Realistic Fiction. That is written in second person and in letter format. 

Even though this was written this way I ended up loving it and I can't wait read more by Julie Berry in the future.

I Am Malala by Malala Yolusafzai

This is a non-fiction book that is about what happened to Malala and how she is dealing with what happened to her and how is is being an advocate for girls education.

A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas

This is a New Adult, Fantasy, Retelling. 

Because it is new adult I was really nervous that I would hate it, but I ended up really like it and I can't wait for the 2nd book to come out.

Room by Emma Donoghue

This is a Adult, Realistic Fiction, Mystery, Contemporary.

As you can tell realistic fiction is something that I have been reading a little more recently, but it is still outside of my comfort zone for now because its just not something I'm fully comfortable with yet.

Rook by Sharon Cameron

This is a YA, Historical Fiction, Dystopian, Retelling.

This one made the list because it is a retelling and while this has been a genre I've been wanting to get into it's still a little out of my comfort zone at the moment.

11/22/63 by Stephen King

This is a Historical Fiction, Adult, Alternate-history, Science Fiction, Time Travel.

This is mainly on this list because it is a Stephen King novel and normally I equate his books with scary movies and that type of thing. This was the complete opposite though and I wish that he would make more books like this.

Those were the books that I've read that were out of my comfort zone when I read them. Having read these books I've now started liking more genres and giving certain ones a little bit more looking into before I say no I don't want to read that.
